We can have a democratic society, or we can have the concentration of wealth in the hands of a few. We cannot have both. - Louis Brandeis.

GP Presidential Candidate Jill Stein Brings Green New Deal to American Voters A People's Candidacy: REAL Security = Sustaiable jobs, Healthcare, Education; Wars & Drone Attacks HARM U.S.
GPF annual gathering in Tampa features Dr. Jill Stein The Green Party of Florida will be having its annual membership gathering in Tampa, the weekend of May 24 through 26.
The guest of honor at the event will be our 2012 Presidential Candidate, Jill Stein. She is known for creating the Green New Deal, and the Green Shadow Cabinet of the United States. Her sustainable and innovative ideas have been an inspiration for many people, Greens and beyond. More.
Stein gives the Green State of the Union — A Green Party response: "Solutions are ready at hand [to] bring a just and sustainable prosperity, rescue the climate and make wars for oil obsolete."
"It's an honor to be here to talk about the real state of our nation. President Obama just finished his speech before Congress. As usual, it was full of inspired, high flying rhetoric, and rosy promises for the future. But it's important to separate the reality from the stage show. We need a real discussion of where we are, so we can set our priorities right and secure the future for our imperiled families, communities, country and planet.
"So I will say what you likely already know — that the state of the union is troubled and in critical ways getting worse. But it is eminently fixable.
"We are facing unprecedented crisis — an economy in relentless decline for the vast majority and a climate accelerating towards catastrophe. In addition we face expanding endless wars, and an assault on our civil liberties.
"But solutions are ready at hand that can bring a just and sustainable prosperity, rescue the climate and make wars for oil obsolete. And these solutions already enjoy majority public support. A movement for democracy and justice is rising up across the country and world that's moving these solutions forward — for people, peace and the planet. And the Green Party is here to give that movement the political voice it deserves, and must have in order to be effective..." Read more.

Is OCCUPY a Green Thing? Well..., NO ... and yes
Born from the same citizen frustration with a growing political class that is farther and farther from the People of America and from the democratic participatory nature of our Nation, the Occupy Movement and the Green Party share a desire and fervor to get our Representatives to ... well, represent us — as though we still had a participatory democracy here. We consider this our birthright, and long for a day when all Americans truly participate in their own governing to the benefit of us all. It would be nice, too, to have a Presidency that didn't consider itself above all laws and treat critics as criminals. No Rule by the 1% for the 99%. We agree. Read more.

Jackson Health System & Dade County Residents Some Green thoughts …
"In all the tumult about Jackson's budget, it seems that many have forgotten Jackson's purpose. Its purpose is to provide a single standard of quality care to all patients, regardless of ability to pay. Its purpose is to serve as a resource for the entire community … "

Counting Our Votes, "Good Idea!" Buying of Elections, "Not!" David Cobb (2004 Green Party Presidential Candidate): How Corporations Work
-- Discussing What Needs to Be Done In Light of "Citizens United" Supreme Court Ruling
Move To Amend's David Cobb
The Move To Amend Barnstorming Tour made its first stop of 13 events throughout Florida at South Miami City Hall at the end of last year. South Miami's City's Council had earlier endorsed the ending corporate personhood which gives companies more rights than ordinary citizens. The event featured former Green Party presidential candidate David Cobb, to raise awareness of the damage being wrought to citizens by corporations insisting upon having "rights" just like individual citizens and to inspire our fight to bring an end to corporate personhood! MTA spokesperson Cobb pointed out that the Constitution, which enumerates rights of people, and lists the duties that government has to The People, makes no mention of corporations. Read more.
NOTE: This Move to Amend Tour is listed on Occupy Miami's facebook page as an official Occupy Miami event. Also, Cobb addressed the Occupy encampment Friday afternoon. A contingent of Occupiers participated at the City Hall meeting, which was live-streamed from http://www.occupymia.org/

The Green Party stand at a previous Book Fair generated a lot of interest
Greens at the Miami International Book Fair Miami's Greens Run homey, informative booth a this year's Fair!
Our booth at the Miami Book Fair was a smashing success! Hundreds of fair goers visited us, many engaging in passionate discussions of the state of our society. Half book store, and half salon, many visitors sat with us in rocking chairs on carpets in the back sipping green tea and talking, talking, talking.
Highlights were appearances by local authors Sandy Davies, whose "Blood On Our Hands: The American Invasion and Destruction of Iraq" had just been named to The Progressive magazine's Best Books of 2011 list, and Camilo Mejia, author of "Road From Ar Ramadi" about his journey as "the first combat veteran to publicly refuse to return for another tour of duty in Iraq.

Another highlight was the appearance of our own unrepentant Alan Kobrin, Ralph Nader's 2000 Florida campaign manager, armed with a dozen reasons other than Ralph on why Al Gore lost, and wow, did that cause a stir, at least among a handful of "dying-hard" Democrats. Perhaps not surprisingly, most of our visitors were independents, and there was clearly a current of alienation from the two parties that keep serving up endless wars of aggression, eroding our civil liberties, using government as a protection racket for the rich and running phoney unfair money-soaked elections that maintain their two party autocratic rule.
On one wall was our banner, "Fighting for the 99% since 1982, the Green Party supports OCCUPY."
Write us if you'd like to be part of the Green Team at the Bookfair next year or any other public outreach event. Let's spend time together, and talk with the public.

Who's the 'Spoiler' Now? In 2000 many asked Nader to 'leave the race' to avoid an undesireable in office; where was that 'thinking' in last year's Florida Senate race?
Calls for Democrat Kendrick Meek to step down from the U.S. Senate race because he would dilute Independent Crist's chances of beating Republican Marco Rubio turned out to be an ironic inversion of the usual "spoiler" scenario, one in which many disappointed Democrats in 2000 blamed Ralph Nader's supporters for 'electing' George Bush... MDGP Brings Carbon-Free Nuke-Free Position to Climate Event Greens at '350 Day' of Climate Action: We Need a Safe & Sustainable Energy Bill Scores of people joined hands Saturday, October 24, in Bicentennial Park (Downtown Miami) to form the number 350, representing the critical 350 parts per million limit of atmospheric CO2 which must be attained this century; if not, scientists say, the Earth is headed for a catastrophe. Current levels are at 390 ppm. M-DGP was present at the public event, espousing the Green Party's more critical stance, which insists that any environmentally appropriate climate bill must not include nuclear energy nor so-called "clean coal." Event participants visiting the environmental sailing ship Ocean Watch docked nearby, were reminded of the importance of the day's issues as they witnessed the air around the lithe wind powered vessel become fouled with dense diesel smoke belching from smokestacks of gargantuan Port of Miami cruise liners heading out for their weekend of fun. Ingrid's "brilliant spirit" survived 6 years in jungle. Green presidential candidate Betancourt, 14 others leave long jungle captivity.More.
Ingrid, mother & husband
"She lived in the vast jungles, forests and swamps of Colombia, trapped in the dark politics of the country, with its violence, multibillion-dollar cocaine industry and regional rivalries," says writer Andrew Darby of Australian paper, The Age.
Darby recalls that when Ingrid Betancourt addressed the assembled Global Greens in Canberra, 2001, she demanded of fellow Greens, "defiance of corruption, a rejection of the 'dictatorship of profits' in favour of a new humanism by the Greens. She urged the party to aim beyond a mere balance of power, and instead to claim it fully.
"'All our big leaders have been killed,' Ms Betancourt had told the Greens in Canberra. 'So the challenge is to be alive at the end of the elections.' Less than a year into her campaign, in February 2002, Ms Betancourt was abducted by guerillas and held for six years and four months."
