Green Woman Wins in Tallahassee
Kim O'Conner got 64% of the vote to defeat the incumbent for a seat on the Ochlockonee River Soil & Water Conservation District. With 56,244 to 31,043 votes, O'Conner beat Preston Robertson who is the North Florida/South Georgia representative of The Conservation Fund.
The conservation district's five nonpartisan supervisors serve four-year terms with no pay. Under state law, they have broad powers to conserve soil and water resources.
Kim, a non-practicing lawyer active in her county Green Party, is the second Green woman to be an officeholder in Florida.

Read coverage as published in the Community newspapers.
Among other issues, Dan has been working with the National League of Cities on defending local and state authority from being undermined by FTAA provisions.

"The Green Party has arrived," declared McCrea. They are joined by Lake Worth Commissioner, Nadine Burns (

   "
Once just a 'green' movement," Dan observed, "the Green Party has evolved into a sophisticated political party with many elected officials and a solid platform."
John Anderson, 1980 independent presidential candidate, joined Fricker, McCrea, and supporters earlier this year to celebrate the first Green official in this county.
