MAKING ELECTIONS FAIR in FLORIDA — & Beyond!
Fighting to make Elections Fair & Cost-Effective!
What We Can Do, Why Does THis Matter?
Among the prioiities for any Green Agenda for Miami-Dade County and elsewhere in Florida, is seeking and running candidates for office — and, of course accumulating the resources and ability to do so. Beyond the actual possibility of electing a person with Green Values to office, the process itself allows us to interface and meet our public, constituencies such as Latinos, youth, labor or elderly that might not even know that we are here, or do not yet realize how much they resonate with our values, vision and goals. It is a great opportunity to dialog with a public that is more than likely to be very frustrated with politics at many levels, yet feels its ability to setp outside the "2-party" arena is limited or impossible. Green Values ARE majoritarian, and our jobe is to help people in our communities to go beyond the corporate propaganda, and realize that. Green Registration, easily done in Florida is a way to support and IDENTIFY with goals most of us want in our communities and lives.
Fair electoral procceses, of course, make it so much more possible to not only be heard but to achieve electoral victory. We realize that at this moment, with so much corporate control over the electorla process via funding (above and below the table) and media control, the current official electoral process is much more slogan than reality. Our participation in that process, however, is a way to increase awareness on not only thedifficultues, but to educate on how to change them, torestore the consciousness and then the reality for fair representative elections. The "Major Two" parties aren't doing this of course (as they stumbel over one another to recieve large donations), and to the contrary, at every effort attempt to maintain an overall status quo, translating to "money = elections."
Greens aren't alone in this battle to reate a real participatory democracy in America. The non-partisan FAIRVOTE.ORG is a good place to learn about how elections could and should be run, and what is going on in this effort around the country. Visit their site.
